How to store food safely

It is no surprise that food is key to our very existence, but it can cause problems and illnesses when it is not stored correctly. There are a number of ways in which you can  ensure that your food is being stored correctly to maintain your health.

Chilled and Frozen – items that are chilled and frozen are often those ones that can cause the most problems when they are stored incorrectly. The best place to start is to ensure that the Integrated American Fridge Freezer that you can purchase from places like wellingtonshomeelectrical.co.uk/refrigeration/american-fridge-freezers/integrated-built-in.html is kept at the right temperature. In the fridge element you also need to ensure that you are storing your meat and vegetables on separate shelves and that you are regularly giving the interior a clean with an antibacterial cleaner.

Ambient items – all other items that don’t need to be stored in a fridge or freezer should be stored in cupboards. When purchasing new items you should ensure that you place these at the back of the cupboard so those items with shorter shelf lives are at the front.

Bakery items – bread and other baked goods should be stored in a cool, dark location to help prevent them from going off too quickly. You can use bread bins or a special area of your kitchen for this use.
