The clocks are going back, and the winter is on its way – this signals not only the start of the cold says bit also the fact that Christmas is just around the corner! With last year’s Christmas being a bit of strange one due to the pandemic, this year many of us are planning bigger and better Christmases than ever before, filled with family and fun.
This also means that we will be having people come over whilst we host them over the festive season. Now is the time to start getting everything ready, this will avoid that stressful build up to Christmas and let you take it easy as the festive season approaches. Here are a few things to do around the home as we get towards Christmas…
Have a Clear Out – When you have people coming to stay over Christmas, getting the house ready is something to start now. This time of the year is perfect for de-cluttering – as the seasons change, it is the ideal opportunity to go through the wardrobe and get rid of things that you no longer need. It will also give you good ideas of things that you would like to add to your winter wardrobe, and that you could add to your Christmas list, such as this Tommy Hilfiger menswear www.ejmenswear.com/men/tommy-hilfiger for example.
If you have children this is also a good time to get rid of things that they no longer need – inevitably they will have new things for Christmas and will probably have a lot of clothes and toys that they have grown out of, that you could donate to charity.
Plan the Festive Food – Something that we all look forward to at Christmas is the food! With food shortages this year due to the lack of HGV drivers, it is a good idea to start planning early and to order the food that you want for the Christmas period. Whether you like a traditional turkey dinner, a different meat or a vegan or vegetarian option, start to plan what you will need. The big supermarkets all do a Christmas order service, or you could find a local farm shop or butchers and order from there – not only will you be supporting a local business, but as the food will not have travelled as far you will be doing something to help the planet.
Decorate the House – We all love a festive home – there are many things that you can do to decorate and it certainly doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Whether you like a traditional tree or have an artificial one that you use every year, some twinkly lights are all that you really need to have that festive glow. Forage in the woods for Christmas greenery to make wreaths and to hang indoors – look for holly, ivy, mistletoe and pine cones which will also bring a lovely woodland scent into the home too!
