Taking Care of your Vinyl Flooring

Many people are now opting for vinyl flooring in their home – although vinyl flooring might conjure up images of shiny looking floors, worn with scuffs, scratches and tears, the modern vinyl flooring is very different.

Nowadays vinyl flooring is not only tougher but also looks much better, with many people opting for vinyl tiles or vinyl wood planks in their home, which are ideal for a busy household that has a lot of foot traffic and needs to be robust enough to stand up to this.

If you like the look of a traditional hardwood floor but want something more resilient and also more moisture resistant, this is a great option for you.

However, like anything, to ensure that the flooring stays in good condition and continues to look great, you need to take care of it. Here is a guide to taking care of your vinyl flooring…

A soft brush is ideal for sweeping the flooring regularly and getting rid of any dirt and dust that has gathered. You can then use the soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to hoover up the debris. Using soft brushes avoids any damage to the flooring.

Once you have got rid of all the dirt and dust, you can then wet clean the floor. A microfibre mop is ideal for this. You can use cleaning products on stubborn areas, but always check the suitability of the product for your flooring type before you go ahead and use it – products that are too harsh could cause damage to the floor. After you have mopped you can then rinse the floor to get rid of excess product.

When there is a spillage on the floor, it should be cleaned up straight away as this reduces the risk of it causing damage to the flooring. It is always easier to clean up a spillage that is recent too.

If you have vinyl flooring that has seen better days, and needs a really good clean, then it is a good idea to get the professionals in to do it!
