3 Plumbing Issues to Always Be Mindful Of

Whether it’s a clogged toilet or leaking pipes, plumbing issues are an inevitable thing that will eventually happen to you, no matter who you are. While regular maintenance can help prevent some of your issues, it won’t stop everything. Additionally, not all plumbing problems are easily seen and caught before they become big problems. Because of that, it’s important to know the signs of potential issues. Here are three things to never ignore when you see them.

1. Soft Countertops

Over time, faucets and their connectors start to wear out. The gaskets fail, and water leaks out. This issue could manifest itself by a huge leak under the cabinet, but that’s not always what happens. Sometimes, the water leaks into the wood on the bottom of the countertop and slowly spreads out. Because the wood can’t adequately dry out, and because you continually use the faucet, the wood of the countertop begins to rot. You’ll know that this is happening because the countertop will feel soft or spongy around the faucet. If this happens, you’ll want to call local plumbing services Wichita Falls TX immediately.

2. Leaking Toilet

If you find that your toilet leaks every time you flush it, you likely need a new toilet flange. Wax rings erode and wear down after time, and they can break if the toilet isn’t tightened down well enough and shifts even a little bit. This is usually an easy fix that you can do yourself. You can get plastic rings that last much longer than wax rings, and they aren’t as temperamental. You can find the parts you need at your local home store.

3. Discolored Ceiling and Walls

One of the hardest parts about plumbing problems is that they are sometimes tucked away in the walls, unable to be seen. If you see wet patches on your walls or see that the paint starts to discolor in one spot, it could be an indication that you have a leak. If the walls in those areas are mushy or soft, you’ll want to call a professional as soon as possible.
